Serchhip Zawlpui FPC conducted a field visit On March 28th, 2026, Saturday, Serchhip Zawlpui Agro Farmers Producers Company Ltd. conducted a field visit to a sunflower farm in Serchhip Zawlpui. Papori Chutia, Project Coordinator, and Udipta Buragohain, Zonal Coordinator from APRINS, Guwahati, joined them.
The paddy fields in Serchhip Zawlpui typically yield one crop annually, with planting in July and harvesting by November. Afterward, many fields remain fallow due to water scarcity, making it difficult to grow other crops. This year, with support from the Agriculture Department, many farmers have planted sunflower, a low-water crop, and it’s currently in full bloom. The vibrant flowers have attracted many visitors, eager to capture photos.
Sunflowers are usually planted in early December and harvested in May. Once harvested, the seeds are processed to extract edible oil, which is both valuable and in demand, selling for around ₹350 per liter.
