DIST. AUTHORITIES AND MJA INSPECT ONGOING NH 54 WORK IN SERCHHIP DISTRICT, Kram Infracon Pvt. Ltd.’s work is delayed and of poor quality, 5 truckloads of non-quarry stone dumped

On August 12, 2026 today, District officials and Serchhip District MJA inspected the road repair work on National Highway 54 - Khumtung to Keitum stretch being carried out by Shivalaya Construction Ltd. and KRAM Infracon Pvt. Ltd. under NHIDCL.  While they found the 5 km stretch repaired by Shivalaya Construction Ltd. from Khumtung entry, Serchhip District up to before Baktawng Chanmari to be quite satisfactory, they said the work done by KRAM Infracon Pvt. Ltd. from Baktawng Mualkawi entry to Keitum is very slow and unsatisfactory. They also said that out of the 5 stockpiles of stones gathered for road repair, the stones were not quarry stones, and yesterday itself they ordered all 5 truckloads to be removed.


The inspection of the ongoing National Highway 54 - Khumtung to Keitum road work yesterday was led by Pu Chawngthu Lalrinhlua, SDC. From the MJA side, it was led by President Pu Kapliana Pachuau. From NHIDCL, Ram Niranjan Parsad, Resident Engineer and Jiten Raut, Field Engineer were present. Pu Lalhruaitluanga, PRO of KRAM Infracon Pvt. Ltd. was also present.


The Phase-1 work of National Highway-54 in Serchhip District, from Khumtung to Baktawng Mualkawi - 5 km, carried out by Shivalaya Construction Ltd. is quite good. Only about 5% of their road needed repair during this monsoon, and they are repairing it well and have almost completed it.

However, the work of KRAM Infracon Pvt. Ltd. on Phase II - Baktawng Mualkawi via Serchhip Bypass Road to Keitum is very poor. More than 80% of the road they built has been damaged and needs repair during this monsoon. This appears to be due to the poor quality of stones used. Even during yesterday’s inspection by District officials and MJA, 5 truckloads of stones clearly not from a quarry, collected from some landslide areas, had to be ordered to be removed.

Meanwhile, the road built by Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd. on Phase-III - Keitum to Bungtlang is quite good, with nothing to complain about and no repairs needed.

NHIDCL had already issued a warning to KRAM Infracon Pvt. Ltd., who are doing the Baktawng Mualkawi to Keitum stretch under NHIDCL, on August 7, 2026. They were directed to complete all repairs to make the road motorable within 15 days, i.e. before August 22. Serchhip DC Pu Paul L. Khuma has also warned that legal action will be taken against KRAM Infracon Pvt. Ltd. if required.
